VIEW ON VOLUBILIS

The ancient city of Volubilis lies perfectly near to the farm of Walila. A perfect way to spend a days tour next to our house!
This special place came to fruition from the 3rd century b.C. to 40th century a.C. From this period some temples have been discovered. When Mauretania was annexed by tha Roman ceasar Claudius, Volubilis obtained its status of independed city. Thereafter it became one of the most important cities of Tingitana.

When the Romans retrieved in the 3rd century a.C. the city decayed. At first it was populated by Christians, but when Idriss the first arrived, it was allready Islamist upgraded.
Only at the beginning of the 20th century Volubilis
was discovered. It shows how well this area used to
be Romanised. Volubilis contains baths, oil presses, shops, mosaics, ovens and aquaducts.
