MOULAY IDRISS

This white city spectacularly lies on two enormous rockformations.

It was here that Idriss the first found his save home, when he fled the Kaliff of Bagdad. Idriss was the son of Ali, son in law of the prophet Mohammed.
It was he who founded the first Arabic-Islamic dynasty of Morocco. He died in 791 and was burried in the place that wears his name.

Idrisses tomb is not open to non Islamic public, but the view from the square near the Sidi Abdallah le-Hajam mosque towards the city and the mausoleum is magnificent.
